Maintain a positive antioxidant status
If you keep the antioxidant status in your body at positive levels then you are far less likely to suffer from disease and you are likely to live longer, according to a number of studies.
Your antioxidant status is another important measure of your ability to fight off and prevent disease.
Without realising it, many people do not take in sufficient antioxidants in their diets which means that day by day they are building up a type of ‘rust’ in their bodies.
This rust is more commonly known as ‘free radicals.’
The main way that your body cleans away these free radicals is by taking in lots of antioxidants which you get from fruit and vegetables.
In the naturopathic world, we reckon you need around 9-10 fruit and veg per day (2 veg to 1 fruit) to achieve a healthy balance between antioxidants and free radicals. In the initial stages of any treatment I often use specific supplements to get a positive balance as quickly and then where possible rely on food.
